Emusquared's Emulation Faqs for Dummies.
(Frequently Asked Questions)
General Faq for beginners

Q. What is an emulator?
A. An emulator is a software program that allows you to play console system and/or arcade games on your PC (or Mac depending on whether it is programmed to).

Q. What is a console system?
A. A console system is basically a home video game system such as Atari, Nintendo or Sega.

Q. How do I connect my old games to my computer?
A. You don't. Except for the case of systems that use CDROMs (such as playstation, etc) you will need a rom image which can be found on the internet or ripped from the actual game with some nifty hardware & software..

Q. What emulators use rom images?
A. Generally, with any system that uses cartridge games the emulator will use roms. Here is a list of emulators that use rom images. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, all Atari (except Jaguar), all Arcade games, Turbografx16, and Neo Geo.

Q. Where can I get roms?
A. Not here. Do a search for roms on an internet search engine. I prefer www.dogpile.com for rom searching, but any engine would do. For example, if you wanted Super Metroid you would type in something like Super Nintendo Super Metroid rom and you will be directed to some great rom sites, also see our link to romfinder as it's a great place to find roms.

Q. Is this legal?
A. Yes and no, emulators are absolutly legal, however roms are only legal if you own the actual game. This is because US law allows you to have a backup of software programs. If you don't own the original game you are pirating and therefore doing something illegal.

Q. How do I work x emulator?
A. See our emulator specific faqs on the FAQ page.

Q. Can I send you an e-mail with a question not specifically addressed in the faq?
A. Absolutely! Please direct your e-mails to collegebound48@hotmail.com.
